Three Things to Watch This Week - Week 4

The 1 - 2 New England Patriots play Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium on Sunday September 29th at 4:05 PM.

I would very much like to go back to watching fancy football.

We're downgrading this team from "surprisingly frisky" to "potentially another lost season" after last week. There's just too far to go for this offense. Watch this space for additional updates

Wilson Power Rankings:

1) How to with John

2) Luke

3) Thomas F.

4) Ann and Nancy

5) Marco

6) Eugene

7) Pickett

8) The Volleyball

9) Patrick

10) Owen

11) Rita

Here are three things that I did not care for in week 3:

1) Poor Jacoby Brissett is getting absolutely beat up out there. I feel for the guy. We have not put him in a good situation.

2) Punts. So many punts.

3) Aaron Rodgers. Maybe not dead yet?

Faith No More - Falling to Pieces

Did the Patriots score 20 points last week?

My brothers and sisters in The Force, you know they did not.

My prediction: Patriots 10, 49ers 34

This week Thursday Morning Third Down Back is pleased to welcome guest columnist Number Six from The Prisoner.

If there's one thing you need to maintain, either as an ex-spy or a football team, it's a sense of identity. It can be too easy to lose your way back to where you want to be if you've forgotten who you are. If you've lost that, you've lost everything.

Your actions define you as a man. Not what society gives you as a label. Or a number. You control the narrative.

...and now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to attempt another escape from the Village with a suspiciously attractive redhead I just met this morning. She seems nice.

Be seeing you.

Three Things to Watch This Week - Week 2

The New England Patriots play Geno Smith and the Seattle Seahawks at Gillette Stadium on Sunday September 15th at 1:00 PM. Rhamondre was running through dudes. Considering how low my expectations were for week 1 and the season in general, I'm going to classify that first game as "delightful". Can you win with a conservative, run first offense and an aggressive defense in 2024? Maybe! HBO David Show Runners Power Rankings: 1) Chase 2) Simon 3) Milch 4) Larry 5) Benioff Here are three things that were pretty good in week 1: 1) Rhamondre Stevenson - Game ball for Stevenson. I know we're in an era where the running game has been deprecated, but he's an absolute beast. 2) Jacoby Brissett - He's never going to blow anyone away, but just being "steady" and "adequate" felt like a huge improvement over what we saw last season. 3) The offensive line took a huge leap from what we saw in the pre-season. Thanks, David Andrews! Dad Rock Jam of the Week

Three Things to Watch This Week - Week 5

The New England Patriots play Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions at Gillette Stadium on Sunday October 9th at 1:00 PM Ad domum. Cool Dad's Club Meeting tonight 9:00 - 9:05 PM   - Fall clean up projects (good)   - Winterizing your house (good)   - Red Sox not in the playoffs (not good) Bailey Power Rankings: 1) 's Irish Cream 2) George 3) Beetle 4) Zappe Here are three things that didn't completely suck in the loss to the Packers: 1) Bailey Zappe - Nobody is saying he's the second coming of Brady or anything, but I thought he played well under the circumstances. I don't think they would have been in it right up until the last minute with Hoyer under center. 2) Matt Patricia - The play calling was less horrible last week. 3) Jack Jones - Do we love to see a rookie corner with a pick six? We do! Did the Patriots score 20 points last week? Yes! 90s Jam of the Week Lush - Superblast! My prediction: Patriots 31, Lions 30 ***** This week we have Fake Matt Patricia. And why n

Five Things to Watch This Week - Week 9 (Game 8)

The Patriots play their eighth (is that really how you spell "8th"?  Something doesn't look right...) game of the season against the New York Giants at Gillette Stadium on Sunday November 6th at 4:15 PM. Rough week last week, Guys.  After the game I put on my Belichick pajamas, crawled into bed and cried myself to sleep. I felt a little better when I woke up Monday morning.  We're still 5 and 2.  All is not lost. This doesn't look like a Super Bowl defense, but nobody else out there really scares me right now.  Nobody is running away with the AFC at this point.  I guess what I'm trying to say is that things are still wide open.  It's only November. I know, Bill.  I couldn't watch, either. Did Chad Ochocinco have a catch last week? NO.  There's been a number of disappointments on this team this year.  Here's five guys I'm hoping to see do something on the field this week: 1) Chad Ochocinco - My expectations were low when w
